‘내가 그녀를 만났을 때(How I met your mother)’는 ‘프렌즈’의 뒤를 잇는 CBS 대표 시트콤으로, 2030년 중년의 테드가 자녀들에게 어떻게 엄마를 만나 사랑에 빠지게 됐는지 얘기해주는 방식입니다. 이야기는 2005년으로 돌아가 20대 후반의 평범한 건축가 테드가 뉴욕에서 친구들과 부대끼며 그의 연인을 찾는 과정을 코믹하게 보여줍니다.

너희 부모님은 너한테서 ‘전설적인’ 바니 이야기를 다 들으셨으니, 날 정말 보고 싶어 하실 거야.

must는 ‘~해야 한다’는 의미뿐 아니라 강한 추측, 즉 ‘(틀림없이) ~일 것이다’라는 의미도 있습니다. dying to~는 ‘~하고 싶어 죽을 지경’이라는 뜻이죠. You must be dying to meet Marshall after coming back to New York(넌 뉴욕에 돌아온 후 마셜이 보고 싶어 죽을 지경이었을 거야)처럼 사용하세요.

here is a/the list of는 단어를 나열할 때 좋은 표현입니다. Here is the list of ingredients you need : tomatoes, cheese, potatoes and chicken(필요하신 재료는 바로 토마토, 치즈, 감자와 닭입니다)처럼 쓸 수 있죠. 단어를 나열하기 전 숨을 잠깐 끊어주고 나열할 A, B, C and D 중 A, B, C는 억양을 올리고 D는 내려 말합니다.

③ How could your parents not know about me? I’m delightful.

어떻게 너희 부모님이 날 모를 수 있어? 난 유쾌한 사람이라고.

‘어떻게 그럴 수 있느냐’며 따지는 듯한 뉘앙스로 How could~?를 쓰죠. How could you do that?(어떻게 그럴 수 있니)처럼요. delightful은 ‘기분 좋은’ ‘유쾌한’이란 뜻입니다.

dose는 ‘1회 분량’ ‘복용량’이란 뜻으로 ‘아주 적은 양’을 의미하기도 하죠. She was put on a minimal dose of an anti-depressant(그녀는 소량의 우울증 치료제를 복용합니다)처럼 씁니다.
