장점이나 단점을 일깨워준다는 의미의 ‘피드백(feedback)’이란 단어는 학교나 직장에서 자주 쓴다. We would like to bring to your attention some feedback we have heard from recruiters thus far(우리가 지금껏 채용담당자들에게 들은 몇 가지 피드백을 너희에게 알려주고 싶어).

One firm observed that our students were far better prepared than other top school students that they had met with early in the week(한 회사는 우리 학교 학생들이 그 주 초에 만난 다른 명문 학교 학생들보다 훨씬 준비가 잘돼 있다고 평가했어). Another firm mentioned how appreciative they were of the profession- alism of our members(다른 회사는 우리 학생들이 보여준 프로정신이 매우 인상적이었다고 했지).

However we would be remiss if we did not mention some of the negative feedback as well(그렇지만 우리가 부정적인 피드백을 언급하지 않는다면 이에 부주의해질 수도 있겠지). remiss는 careless의 의미다. In one instance a member walked in to a presentation 30 minutes late and then proceeded to walk in front of the speaker and up the middle of the aisle(예를 들면, 한 학생은 설명회에 30분이나 늦었으면서 연사 앞으로 걸어 들어왔어. 또 통로 가운데로 계속 걸었지).

Other recruiters have also mentioned how distracting it is when students walk in late so this was not an isolated incident(어떤 채용담당자들은 학생들이 그처럼 늦게 들어올 때마다 분위기가 아주 산만해졌다고 지적했어. 또 이런 일이 여러 번 있었다고 하더군). ‘주의가 산만하다’에 딱 들어맞는 표현이 distracting이다.

We have also heard negative comments about the use of blackberries and iPhones during presentations(또 설명회 도중 블랙베리나 아이폰을 사용하는 데 대한 부정적인 얘기를 들었어). e메일 송수신이 되는 스마트폰인 블랙베리나 아이폰은 이제 보통명사화한 느낌이다. While you are at an event, make the effort to be engaged, to show respect and to represent our school well(너희가 행사에 참석하는 동안은 행사 내용에 몰입하고 연사에 대한 존중을 표시하며 우리 학교를 대표한다는 생각을 가져줘).



식사가 제공되는 이벤트에서 행사보다 먹을거리에 더 관심을 두는 학생도 눈에 띈다. It looks really bad when people show up to eat dinner and then leave mid-way through the presentation(저녁을 먹기 위한 목적으로 행사에 참석했다가 설명회 도중 사라지는 것은 진짜 보기 좋지 않아).
