‘레드 존 사건’으로 자진 퇴사한 제인. 그를 돕기 위해 팀원들은 ‘수사 금지 명령’에도 증거물을 파헤치다 경감에게 딱 걸리네요.
Chief : Van Pelt. What’s that you’re working on?
Cho : Sir, I asked her to.... / Chief : I’m talking to Van Pelt.
Van Pelt : Sir... I’m doing research for Jane. No excuses, sir.
Chief : You, too, I suppose. / Lisbon : Hey, boss.
Chief : I gave this unit a direct, written order. And they have flagrantly disobeyed that order.① Did they do that with your knowledge?
Lisbon : I ordered them to do it. I told them you countermanded your earlier order.② They have no knowledge whatsoever that they were doing anything irregular.③
Chief : Nice try, Mother Teresa. They already gave themselves up.④

그런데 그들은 보란 듯이 그 명령을 어기고 있네.
flagrantly는 ‘명백하게도, 보란 듯이, 악명 높게’라는 뜻이에요. You flagrantly violated basic netiquette(당신은 네티켓을 보란 듯이 어겼어)처럼 씁니다.
② I told them you countermanded your earlier order.
경감님이 이전 명령을 취소했다고 팀원들에게 전했습니다.
countermand는 ‘취소하다, 철회하다’라는 뜻입니다. We countermanded the assignment(우리는 그 업무를 철회했어요)처럼 말이에요.
③ They have no knowledge whatsoever that they were doing anything irregular.
팀원들은 이게 부적절한 일이라는 것을 하나도 몰랐습니다.
whatsoever는 whatever의 강조형으로 ‘~에 관여해서는 무엇이든지’라는 뜻입니다. 때로는 ‘at all’과 같이 ‘약간도 ~가 없는, 하등의 ~도’라는 의미로 쓰이죠. That makes no sense whatsoever(그건 정말 말도 안 돼요)처럼 씁니다.

얼씨구, 테레사 수녀 나셨네. 얘네들도 이미 불었어.
국장은 팀원들을 위해 책임을 지는 ‘테레사 리스본’을 ‘마더 테레사’에 비유하며 비꼬네요. Give oneself up은 ‘자수하다, 자백하다, 단념하다’라는 뜻으로 The terrorists gave themselves up(테러리스트들이 자백했다)처럼 쓸 수 있죠.
